In anticipation of Holi celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a stern advisory aimed at curbing traffic violations, particularly focusing on drunken driving and red-light jumping incidents.
The advisory highlights the deployment of specialised teams at major road intersections to ensure stringent enforcement measures.
These teams will be tasked with combating a spectrum of traffic offences, including drunken driving, over-speeding, reckless driving, red-light violations, and other hazardous behaviours such as zig-zag driving and performing stunts on two-wheelers.
In alignment with directives from a Supreme Court committee on road safety, stringent penalties for offences like drunken driving, red-light violations, and dangerous driving will be enforced.
Seizure of driving licenses, with the possibility of suspension for a minimum of three months, will be among the punitive measures for offenders.
Additionally, vehicle owners will face repercussions if their vehicles are operated by minors or unauthorised individuals, or if they are involved in stunts or driving without a valid license.
The public is urged to adhere to traffic regulations diligently, with specific emphasis on abstaining from drinking and driving, respecting speed limits, obeying traffic signals, and refraining from engaging in reckless driving practices.
Furthermore, two-wheeler riders are reminded to wear helmets, and individuals are cautioned against allowing minors or unauthorised persons to operate vehicles.
The advisory concludes with a plea for responsible celebration, urging the public to confine Holi festivities indoors and avoid congregating in public spaces or on roads.
