External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to embark on a diplomatic trip to Australia and Singapore from November 3 to November 8. This visit aims to strengthen ties between India and these two nations while addressing significant regional issues.
In Australia, Jaishankar will co-chair the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, in Canberra. This dialogue is a platform for both nations to discuss and enhance their bilateral relationship across various sectors. The visit comes at a time when both countries are keen to deepen their engagement in areas like trade, security, and cultural exchange.
Jaishankar will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the 2nd Raisina Down Under, which will take place in the Australian Parliament House. This event aims to promote dialogue on critical global issues and strengthen India-Australia relations.
In addition to the dialogue, the External Affairs Minister will engage with various Australian leaders, parliamentarians, and members of the Indian diaspora. He will also interact with the business community, media representatives, and think tanks to discuss avenues for collaboration.
Another highlight of his trip to Australia is the inauguration of India’s fourth consulate in Brisbane. This consulate will serve as a vital link for the Indian community and businesses in the region, further solidifying India’s presence in Australia.
The positive momentum in the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has been acknowledged during previous meetings, particularly at the second India-Australia 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Dialogue held in Delhi last November. This partnership is pivotal for supporting the security and prosperity of both nations and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
Following his engagements in Australia, Jaishankar will travel to Singapore on November 8. In Singapore, he will address the 8th Roundtable of the ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks.
This roundtable will focus on fostering cooperation and dialogue among think tanks from ASEAN countries and India, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in addressing regional challenges.
During his time in Singapore, Jaishankar is expected to meet with the country's leadership to review the close partnership between India and Singapore. Both nations have a longstanding relationship, and this meeting will explore further opportunities to enhance bilateral ties in trade, investment, and security.
The minister's visit to Singapore follows his last trip there in March, reflecting the ongoing commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic relations.
Jaishankar’s visit is significant as it underscores India’s proactive approach to strengthening its foreign relations.
The meetings and dialogues scheduled during this trip will likely result in concrete outcomes that benefit both nations. The emphasis on partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region is essential for addressing various global challenges, including economic stability, security cooperation, and climate change.
