Foreign tourist gang-raped in Jharkhand, departs for Nepal, commends people of India

Three accused have been arrested in the gang rape case so far.

A foreign tourist, who was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Dumka district last week, expressed her gratitude towards the people of India, stating that the incident should not be construed as a reflection of the nation as a whole.

The 28-year-old woman, along with her husband, departed for Nepal today via Bihar on their motorcycles.

While acknowledging the trauma of the attack, she stressed that it was an isolated incident and that the vast majority of Indians had treated them with kindness and hospitality throughout their extensive travels across the country.

"People of India are nice. I don't blame the people, but I blame the criminals. People of India have treated me very well, and were very kind to me," she remarked.

The incident occurred on Friday night in the Kurumahat area, approximately 300 kilometers from the state capital, Ranchi.

The couple, who have been traveling for over six years and have covered 20,000 kilometers in India alone, were camping overnight when they were attacked.

"We have been in India for the last six months and travelled around 20,000 km. We did not have any problems anywhere. This has happened for the first time," she said.

"I have good memories from India," she added.

The woman said that she would continue her tour along with her husband.

"I want to tell some people, especially girls, to coach themselves to face such situations," she said.

"I know it's hard and it's not easy. You don't forget, but you have to keep trying to leave it in the past," she mourned.

Meanwhile, Dumka Superintendent of Police, Pitamber Singh Kherwar, confirmed the couple's departure and stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Three individuals have been apprehended, and the remaining four suspects are being actively pursued.

The survivor's husband commended the police for their prompt response and expressed his appreciation for their efforts.
