Golden Jubilee Torch handed over to KVK Kullu

At present, there are 731 KVKs, working to uplift the economy of farmers in India.

The digital torch is being relayed among different Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the country as per ICAR'S concept to mark the golden jubilee of establishment of KVKs in the country.


In a ceremony marked by grandeur and jubilation on the completion of 50 years of establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the country, a digital Golden Jubilee Torch was ritually handed over to KVK Kullu earlier this week, marking a significant milestone in the institution's history.  

 

It was a part of the concept developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi wherein a digital torch among different KVKs throughout the country is being relayed to mark the Golden Jubilee celebration. 

 

The first KVK was established in 1974 in India at Puducherry. At present, there are 731 KVKs, working to uplift the economy of farmers in India.  

 

The Golden Jubilee Torch signifies the excellence and innovation of KVKs in agricultural research and development and dissemination of farmer-friendly technology to the farmer community capturing the essence of hope and progress. 

 

The Golden Jubilee torch was transferred to Dr Chanderkanta, Head, KVK Kullu by Dr. Pankaj  Head, KVK Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
 
Dr. ChanderKanta, Programme coordinator KVK Kullu highlighted the importance of celebrating the Golden Jubilee foundation of KVKs. “This torch not just represents our achievements, but also our commitment to empower farmers and transform rural livelihoods," she said. 

 

Krishi Vigyan Kendras are the centers for agriculture extension created by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (and its affiliated institutions at the district level. KVKs are an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System and serve as the link between scientists and farmers.

 

In addition, KVKs play a crucial role in the transfer of technology from lab to land and also produce quality technological products and make them available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations, and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK. 

 

Dr Chanderkanta lauded the efforts of KVK staff in Kullu for their outstanding service to the farming community. She underlined the necessity for KVKs to act as district agri-tech agencies for entrepreneurship development and livelihood security of the farmers.
