The Union Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt, recently inaugurated the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) jetty at Vadinar, located in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district. This inauguration marks a significant step towards enhancing infrastructure development in the strategically vital North-West region of the country.

During the inauguration ceremony, the minister commended the crucial role played by the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding national maritime interests within its designated areas of responsibility.

The Vadinar jetty project, developed by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), represents a notable investment in maritime infrastructure, with a total cost amounting to Rs 74 crore.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to bolstering coastal security and surveillance capabilities, particularly along the Gujarat coastline, which spans approximately 1,215 kilometers.

The Vadinar jetty will serve as a crucial operational hub for the Indian Coast Guard, facilitating the deployment of ships and aircraft for security operations, surveillance activities, and continuous monitoring of maritime traffic.

On average, the headquarters deploys 10 to 12 ships and two to three aircraft daily to maintain a vigilant presence at sea and respond swiftly to any maritime challenges or threats.

In addition to the Vadinar jetty, the Indian Coast Guard has undertaken several other infrastructure development projects in Gujarat, including the construction of a 100-meter jetty extension at Porbandar, a 200-meter jetty at Okha, and a 125-meter jetty at Mundra.

These projects are aimed at enhancing operational capabilities, improving logistical support, and strengthening the overall maritime security framework in the region.

The establishment of the North-West regional headquarters of the Indian Coast Guard in Gandhinagar in 2009 marked a significant milestone in the organization's efforts to enhance its presence and operational effectiveness in Gujarat, Daman, and Diu.

This headquarters plays a pivotal role in executing the Coast Guard's mandated charter, which includes safeguarding coastal borders, preventing maritime threats, and ensuring maritime safety and security.

Director General Rakesh Pal, Inspector General A K Harbola, and other dignitaries from both the Central and state governments were present at the inauguration ceremony, underscoring the collaborative efforts and commitment to maritime security and infrastructure development in the region.
