Sub-Inspector Suman Kumari, originally from Himachal Pradesh, has achieved the milestone of becoming the Border Security Force's (BSF) first woman sniper.
This accomplishment follows her successful completion of an intensive 8-week course at the Central School of Armament and Warfare Skills (CSWT) located in Indore, as confirmed by an official on Monday.
The CSWT proudly highlighted this achievement on the social media platform X, emphasizing the BSF's commitment to inclusivity. "BSF is truly becoming an inclusive Force where #ladies are taking rapid strides everywhere. In a step in this direction, after rigorous training, #BSF has got the First #Mahila Sniper," shared the CSWT.
Suman, aged 28 and hailing from Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, joined the BSF three years ago. Her aspiration for sniper training led her to be part of a group of 57 personnel who underwent an intensive eight-week training program at CSWT, according to the official statement.
Remarkably, Suman not only completed the challenging course but also earned the grade of 'Instructor.' This achievement signifies that she is now qualified to provide sniper training to fellow personnel, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Born to an electrician father and a homemaker mother, Suman had previously undergone training in unarmed combat. This notable accomplishment by the BSF comes just days before the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8.
