The departure of a Dubai-bound flight with 286 passengers from Chennai International Airport was delayed on Tuesday following a hoax bomb threat, police said.
After an email warning about a bomb on the aircraft was received here, security agencies conducted a thorough check of the international flight that was scheduled for departure at around 10.30 am on Tuesday, they said, according to PTI.
The flight has been cleared to proceed to its destination after security checks revealed the threat was a hoax, they added.
A news outlet also reported that Delhi airport on Monday received an email warning about a bomb placed inside a Dubai-bound aircraft. Police, after security checks, identified the threat as a hoax.
The email was sent to the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) office at IGI Airport and did not specify the airline’s name or flight number.
Usha Rangnani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI), said all necessary legal action had been taken and nothing had been found.
Various schools, hospitals, even museums, in Capital Delhi have received hoax bomb threats over the last few months.
In May, around a 150 schools received emails with bomb threats. Again, in the same month, security checks were ordered after colleges received threats and an aircraft to Varanasi was delayed because of a similar threat.
In June, emails signed off by Adam Lanza, name of a 20-year-old man who killed 20 children and six adults in a 2012 US elementary school shootout, were sent to various Delhi museums, NGOs and health facilities.
