Himachal Pradesh Minister and Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh announced that a new order has been issued requiring all shopkeepers and street vendors to display their identification. The decision was made following a joint meeting with the Public Works, Urban Development, and Municipal Corporation.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Singh explained that the policy is aimed at ensuring the sale of hygienic food, particularly by street vendors handling edible items. “We held a meeting with the Urban Development department and the Municipal Corporation. To make sure hygienic food is sold, a decision has been taken for all street vendors, especially those selling edible items,” Singh said.
He also addressed concerns raised by local residents regarding the hygiene of street food, stating that the authorities had taken these concerns into account.
"People expressed their concerns and doubts, and considering this, we have decided to implement a similar policy to that in Uttar Pradesh, where vendors must display their names and IDs. Every shopkeeper and street vendor will now be required to display their identification," Singh added.
Singh shared the development on his Facebook account, emphasising that the decision was reached during the joint meeting with the relevant departments.
He further explained that in addition to street vendors, all restaurants and fast food outlets in Himachal Pradesh will be required to display the owner’s identification to ensure a smooth and transparent experience for customers.
This directive was formalised after discussions with the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation.
This initiative comes in response to a similar directive issued by the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday. Under this mandate, food establishments in Uttar Pradesh are required to display the names and addresses of operators, proprietors, and managers.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered that chefs and waiters wear masks and gloves, while hotels and restaurants must install CCTV cameras to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
