Congress to raise Manipur crisis and Adani bribery charges.

The INDIA bloc is gearing up to strategize for the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, with a meeting scheduled for November 25 at Parliament House. Leaders of the alliance are set to deliberate on their approach to several key issues.

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, is expected to lead discussions and outline the bloc’s plan for the session.

The Congress is likely to prioritise raising concerns over the ongoing crisis in Manipur and allegations of bribery involving the Adani Group.

According to Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, the party plans to draw attention to reports from the US Department of Justice suggesting that the Adani Group allegedly paid bribes amounting to ₹2,300 crore to ruling party officials.

The Congress will also push for debates on issues such as unemployment, pollution in Northern India, and the law-and-order situation in Manipur, where violence continues to plague the region.

The Winter Session will also see discussions on key legislative proposals. Among these is the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, which the INDIA bloc has openly opposed.

Other bills, such as the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, are also expected to be debated during the session. Additionally, the government is likely to introduce the 'One Nation, One Election' bill, a proposal aimed at synchronising elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised that this initiative would optimise resources and strengthen India's democratic framework. However, the Congress has rejected the proposal, stating that such a significant shift requires broader consensus within Parliament.

Ahead of the session, an all-party meeting was convened by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The meeting served as a platform for leaders to express their priorities for the session. Congress reiterated its demands for discussions on issues impacting governance and accountability.
