India remains vigilant about any developments that impact its national security, particularly in relation to Pakistan’s growing ballistic-missile capabilities.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, assured on Friday that New Delhi monitors such matters closely and acts accordingly, following questions regarding Pakistan's missile programme.
This comes in the wake of the United States imposing sanctions on four Pakistani entities, including the National Development Complex (NDC), a key state-owned aerospace and defence agency, for their involvement in Pakistan’s missile development.
During a weekly media briefing, Jaiswal responded to queries on India’s position regarding Pakistan’s missile capabilities and the sanctions imposed by the US.
He emphasised, "As you know, we follow all developments that have a bearing on our security and our interest very closely, and we take these things very seriously, and take action as appropriate."
The recent US sanctions were imposed after allegations that these entities, particularly the NDC, had contributed to Pakistan’s ballistic-missile programme.
These sanctions were notably linked to Pakistan’s development of the SHAHEEN-series of ballistic missiles. According to US officials, Pakistan’s advancement in missile technology could potentially expand its reach beyond South Asia, raising concerns about an emerging threat to international security.
Jaiswal's comments highlight India's concerns over regional security and reaffirm the country's commitment to taking necessary steps to protect its interests.
The US assessment aligns with India's view of the threat posed by Pakistan’s expanding missile capabilities, which could one day target far beyond the South Asian region.
