Operation Sindoor: India strikes 9 terror camps in Pak

The Indian Armed Forces have initiated Operation Sindoor, conducting strikes on terrorist camps located in Pakistan. The operation comes in response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.

In a strong and strategic response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, the Indian Armed Forces launched precision strikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday. The operation, carried out under the codename ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeted nine locations believed to be hubs for planning and executing cross-border terrorist activities against India.

Pakistan has vowed to retaliate at a "time and place of its own choosing" following India's precision strikes on nine locations, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Gulpur, Bhimber, Chak Amru, Bagh, Kotli, Sialkot and Muzaffarabad, as part of Operation Sindoor. The strikes mark a significant escalation in India’s counter-terrorism measures and come amid rising public and political pressure for a decisive response to the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, one of the deadliest in recent years.

In an official statement following the strikes, the Indian government clarified that the action was "focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature". It emphasised that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, and that the operation specifically aimed at terrorist infrastructure used to plan and direct attacks on Indian soil.

Soon after the government’s announcement, the Indian Army posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "Justice is served."

Meanwhile, Pakistan has responded with a warning, with state-run AFP reporting that Islamabad has vowed to retaliate at a "time and place of its choosing." According to Geo News, Pakistan’s military spokesperson claimed that the Indian strikes resulted in the deaths of three people and injured over a dozen others. Pakistan identified the targeted areas as Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.

These locations are notable as they have long been flagged by Indian intelligence agencies as bases for terrorist outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The military action follows firm statements from top Indian political leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who had publicly vowed to ensure that those behind the Pahalgam attack would face consequences. The Indian government reiterated that message in today’s statement, saying, "We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable."

A detailed official briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today, which will likely provide more insights into the targets hit, the intelligence behind the operation, and India's strategic calculus in carrying out these strikes.

The situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert as the region braces for possible retaliatory developments.
