In the early hours of Sunday, August 10, Indian Army troops initiated an intelligence-based operation in the Dul area of Kishtwar, an action detailed by the Army’s White Knight Corps. The operation began with a swift deployment of alert troops who, upon making contact with terrorists, became engaged in a fierce gunfight that is currently ongoing.
Sources indicate that the operation is focused on a small group of two to three Pakistani terrorists believed to be concealed in the area. The Army’s White Knight Corps, through a public update on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the operation is in progress, stating, 'alert Indian Army troops launched an intelligence-based operation in the Dul area of Kishtwar in the early hours of August 10 and came in contact with terrorists, and the operation is currently underway.'
This recent engagement in Kishtwar is concurrent with Operation Akhal, one of the longest-running anti-terror offensives in the region. Operation Akhal started on August 1 after receiving specific information that terrorists were hiding in a forested area of Akhal in south Kashmir. The recent overnight firefight on Friday is just one example of the fierce fighting that has characterised Operation Akhal. Two soldiers, Sepoy Harminder Singh and Lance Naik Pritpal Singh, tragically lost their lives as a result of the operation.
Two additional personnel were injured in the same incident, bringing the total number of wounded to ten since the operation began. So far, over five terrorists have been neutralised in the Akhal operation.
The series of recent clashes, including the new encounter in Kishtwar, underscores a significant intensification of counter-terror measures in Jammu and Kashmir. In order to destroy any remaining militant strongholds in the area, security agencies have vowed to keep up these operations until all threats have been eliminated.
