Army personnel carry out rescue operations for flood-affected villagers across multiple regions in India, providing relief and support amid severe monsoon inundation.

The Indian Army has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to citizens, leading rescue and relief operations across flood-hit regions nationwide since April 2025. Over 75 locations have witnessed soldiers in action, combining rapid response with extensive humanitarian support.

A release from the Army highlighted that 126 rescue columns have been deployed so far, saving more than 21,500 civilians, providing medical aid to nearly 9,700 people, and delivering over 23,500 kilograms of essential supplies. Engineers have constructed 29 bridges, including one spanning 110 feet, and reinforced embankments at 12 critical sites. Helicopter units have logged over 500 flying hours, often operating in hazardous conditions.

Punjab has been particularly affected by relentless rains. Here, 48 rescue columns have rescued around 10,000 civilians, provided medical care to 4,700 individuals, and distributed 12,500 kilograms of relief material. Helicopters flew for over 250 hours, airlifting villagers stranded by floods and delivering supplies to inaccessible locations. Nearly 500 security personnel, including those from the BSF, were evacuated from forward posts in Lassian, Kasowal, and Darya Mansur.

“The sheer scale of helicopter operations underlines the urgency and commitment with which soldiers have operated, often at great personal risk,” the Army said. From Punjab to other flood-affected interiors, the force continues to embody the ethos of “Service Before Self,” arriving first and leaving last.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on September 9 to review the situation. In Himachal, he will undertake an aerial survey of flood and landslide-affected areas, meet officials in Kangra, and chair a high-level review meeting. In Punjab, the Prime Minister will conduct an aerial survey around 3 pm and hold ground discussions in Gurdaspur at 4:15 pm, interacting with flood-affected residents and disaster response teams.
