In response to Cyclone Remal, the Indian Navy has floated a series of preparatory actions following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a robust Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) response. This effort is being closely monitored at Naval Headquarters, with comprehensive preparations underway by the Headquarters of Eastern Naval Command.
Cyclone Remal is predicted to intensify into a severe cyclone and is expected to make landfall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh. To prepare for this, the Indian Navy has readied two ships equipped with HADR and medical supplies for immediate deployment to ensure the safety and welfare of those affected by the cyclone.
In addition to the ships, Indian Naval aviation assets, including Sea King and Chetak helicopters as well as Dornier aircraft, are on standby for rapid response. The Navy has also stationed specialised diving teams with equipment in Kolkata to provide prompt assistance. Additional diving teams are on standby in Visakhapatnam, ready for quick deployment if necessary.
Furthermore, two Flood Relief Teams (FRTs), equipped with HADR and medical supplies, are being positioned in Kolkata. Two additional FRTs from Visakhapatnam and Chilka are also on standby, prepared for deployment at short notice.
The Indian Navy remains vigilant and is closely monitoring the evolving situation. These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy to provide immediate and effective assistance in the wake of Cyclone Remal, ensuring that the affected populations receive the necessary support as quickly as possible.
