J&K govt sets up 'Sainik Sahayta kendra' for welfare of soldiers

For the first time in decades, in a major welfare move for para military forces posted across UT of J&K,  the Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up the Lieutenant Governor’s Sainik Sahayta Kendra  for quick redressal of civilian grievances faced by soldiers of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces hailing from or posted in J&K.

For the first time in decades, in a major welfare move for para military forces posted across UT of J&K,  the Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up the Lieutenant Governor’s Sainik Sahayta Kendra  for quick redressal of civilian grievances faced by soldiers of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces hailing from or posted in J&K.


Soldiers’ Assistance and Liaison Cell, as it has been named, it is  a key administrative move and  a dedicated cell for soldiers’ assistance and liaison to provide timely redressal of grievances faced by soldiers . Soon after the announcement, the government nominated one IAS officer and two KAS officers for operationalization of the new Centre.


 The Kendra will function as a single-window platform to receive, assess, and process grievances submitted by serving soldiers or their authorised representatives.The Kendra will also facilitate direct appointments between soldiers and relevant civil or police officers in their home districts, follow up on unresolved matters, and ensure quick redressal. A performance dashboard will be maintained for real-time monitoring, and quarterly reports will be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.


The Kendra will start operating immediately from offices located at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu and Srinagar. The Information Technology Department has been tasked to deploy two officials proficient in data handling and case monitoring, along with necessary computer systems and hardware.

 

The Estates Department has been directed to ensure appropriate accommodation and facilities for the functioning of the Kendras in both Jammu and Srinagar. A detailed operational framework has also been enclosed with the government order.

 

In a separate order Government Order, the government nominated the following officers for the operationalization of the Kendra, in addition to their existing responsibilities, Prasanna Ramaswamy G, IAS, Secretary to Government, Tribal Affairs Department. Aflaq Ahmad, JKAS, Under Secretary to Government, Revenue Department and Abhimanyu Singh, JKAS, Manager-cum-Protocol Officer, Resident Commission, New Delhi.
