The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation seeking ban on INDIA block’s ambitious scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana’ being run by the Jharkhand government.
The bench of the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Justice MS Ramachandra Rao heard the matter and refused to put a ban on the scheme.
One Vishnu Sahu, a resident of Simdega district, had filed the PIL through his advocate Rajiv Kumar pleading that before the elections the government has started such a scheme to woo voters.
The petitioner, represented by lawyer Rajiv Kumar, had referenced a Supreme Court ruling that prohibited the free distribution of goods or services.
He had contended that this scheme was introduced purely for electoral gain, arguing that it violates Supreme Court directives and should be halted immediately.
The 'Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana' is a significant state government initiative, aimed at providing monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to all women aged 21 to 50 in the state, directly deposited into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The Hemant Soren led government in the State has announced to raise the honorarium under the scheme to Rs 2500 per month.
The BJP, which had criticised the scheme, claiming it was announced merely to mislead people ahead of the Assembly elections, later announced a similar scheme named Go Go Didi Yojna, promising Rs 2100 per month to poor women of the State.
