After the end of the process of withdrawal of nominations for the second phase of assembly elections a total of 528 candidates are in the fray for 38 assembly constituencies in Jharkhand.
Jharkhand Chief Election Officer K Ravi Kumar today said that the number of male candidates out of the 528 candidates is 472. Among the candidates there are 55 female candidates and one candidate is a transgender.
Giving detailed information the CEO informed that out of the total 528 candidates, 73 candidates are from recognized national parties, out of which 60 are men and 13 are women.
Similarly, recognized state-level parties of Jharkhand have fielded a total of 28 candidates, out of which 23 are men and 5 are women. Recognized state-level parties of other states have fielded 34 people as candidates. Among them 32 are men and 2 are women.
At the same time, registered unrecognised political parties have given a total of 136 candidates, out of which 126 are men, 9 are women and one candidate is transgender.
In the second phase of elections, a total of 257 independent candidates are trying their luck in the election. They include 231 men and 26 women.
The CEO further informed that since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state, illegal material and cash worth Rs 135.70 crore have been seized so far. Also, a total of 24 FIRs have been registered so far in the case of violation of Model Code of Conduct. The process of action against them is going on as per rules.
He said that the process of depositing licensed weapons of the state is going on. At present, there are 16,696 arms licences in the state, out of which 13,634 arms have been deposited. At the same time, 40 licences have been blocked. 487 licences have been cancelled and deposited and 1,354 licence holders have been exempted from depositing them after their application.
