Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, expressed his confidence about the party's performance in the upcoming Delhi elections.
He believes the people of Delhi, who gave the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) two consecutive terms to prove their capabilities, are now feeling disheartened by the lack of progress over the past decade.
According to Sehrawat, the expectations of the people were not met, which has led to widespread disappointment. He pointed out that if the AAP had delivered on its promises, the public would have recognised and appreciated their work.
Instead, the party’s failure to fulfil its commitments has left the city in a state of disillusionment.
Sehrawat confidently predicted that the results of the Delhi elections would exceed the predictions made by exit polls. He stressed that the people of Delhi are sharp in assessing the performance of political parties.
The BJP MP noted that had AAP made any real progress in the last ten years, their performance would have been clearly evident. However, with no visible improvements, he said the people are likely to give their verdict accordingly. He further affirmed that the next Chief Minister of Delhi will be from the BJP.
The exit polls, released after voting concluded on Wednesday, generally forecast that the BJP is on track to form the next government in Delhi.
Most polls suggest that AAP, the current ruling party, will struggle to maintain its hold on power, while Congress is expected to continue its poor performance in the elections.
The predictions on the number of seats BJP will win vary, with one poll projecting the party could secure 51-60 seats out of the 70 in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The voter turnout for the elections, which took place on Wednesday, was recorded at 60.42 per cent, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI). The election saw fierce competition across all 70 constituencies, with active participation from voters.
North East Delhi recorded the highest turnout at 66.25 per cent, while South East Delhi had the lowest at 56.16 per cent.
Other districts also showed varying voter turnout, with Central Delhi recording 59.09 per cent, East Delhi at 62.37 per cent, and New Delhi at 57.13 per cent.
The remaining districts, such as North, North West, Shahdara, South, South-West, and West, had voter turnouts ranging between 58 per cent and 63 per cent.
The final results of the election will be declared by the Election Commission on February 8, 2025, which will determine the future political landscape of Delhi.
