The Rouse Avenue Court has granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea, directing the Tihar jail authorities to provide him with an electric kettle and a table with a chair for reading books.

 

This decision comes in light of Kejriwal's medical condition, with the court acknowledging the necessity of an electric kettle for heating water and having tea, which he requires at frequent intervals.

 

This development follows Kejriwal's judicial custody till April 15 in the excise policy money laundering case, as ordered by the same court on April 1.

 

Kejriwal's application also sought permission to carry several books, including religious texts like the Bagwad Geeta and Ramayana, along with the book titled ‘How Prime Minister Decides’ authored by Neerja Chaudhary.

 

His arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case marked a significant event in independent India, being the first instance of a serving Chief Minister's arrest.

 

The move came after Kejriwal skipped multiple summons by the investigation agency, terming them "illegal."

 

The case revolves around alleged irregularities and money laundering related to the framing and implementation of the Delhi excise policy 2022, which was subsequently scrapped.

 

While Kejriwal wasn't initially named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), his involvement surfaced in the ED's chargesheet.

 

The agency claimed that Kejriwal allegedly communicated with one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, via video call, instructing him to continue working with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair.

 

Nair was among the first individuals arrested by the CBI in 2022, followed by former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with the case.
