Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for backing Home Minister Amit Shah’s comment on Baba Saheb BR Ambedkar.
Disappointed with the response, Kejriwal said he could never imagine that the prime minister of India would defend such abusive language against Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The recent fiasco started after Amit Shah accused the Congress of not respecting Ambedkar and when Kejriwal asked them about their approach.
Taking to twitter, Kejriwal said that even though they had failed Baba Saheb, Congress did not allow BJP to insult him. In a blunt message posted in his Twitter account, he wondered why the PM made the statement.
He indignantly said, “Prime Minister, I am shocked to read your explanation. You said that Congress did not do good to Baba Saheb.
Well then, how does this entitle you, your party and your Home Minister to insult Baba Saheb? If Congress insulted Baba Saheb how would you treat Baba Saheb? Such an explanation coming from the Prime Minister of the country is ridiculous.
Kejriwal went on to argue that the PM notwithstanding defending Shah has just twisted the proverbial ‘injury’.
He accused the BJP of trying to destabilise Ambedkar’s statues, a comment based on Shah’s statement in the parliamentary session. Shah has accused the Congress party of using Ambedkar’s name each time as a political gimmick.
The Prime Minister defended Shah by redirecting the focus onto the Congress party.
He argued that Shah’s comments underscored the Congress’ long-standing neglect of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, as well as their mistreatment of Ambedkar. Modi suggested that the Congress feels uncomfortable because they are being faced with these uncomfortable truths.
Through a tweet storm, Modi alleged that the Congress party was perpetuating drama to conceal their "bloody history" of neglecting the underprivileged.
He also gave examples of alleged acts against Ambedkar by the party, like making him lose elections, avoiding him as a political player and taking so long to recognise him.
The PM said the Congress thwarted the Bharat Ratna for Ambedkar when it was in power, and put up resistance to having his portrait in Parliament.
Moreover, Modi highlighted his government’s dedication to honoring Ambedkar's legacy. He outlined initiatives like the creation of the "Panchteerth," which includes five significant locations linked to Ambedkar's life, and the acquisition of his residence in London.
The government also addressed a long-standing issue regarding land for Chaitya Bhoomi, Ambedkar's final resting place, and developed the house at 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, where Ambedkar spent his last days.
Modi highlighted that his government deeply values Ambedkar's contributions, claiming that their actions demonstrate this respect more than just words can express. He mentioned that it is Ambedkar’s vision that keeps India united today, and the BJP's respect for him remains unwavering.
The situation escalated after Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament. Shah took aim at the Congress, accusing them of using Ambedkar's name for political advantage without genuinely upholding his principles.
He further ignited controversy by suggesting that if the Congress had called upon God as often as they referenced Ambedkar, they might have secured "heaven for seven lives."
