Arvind Kejriwal Withdraws SC Plea in Excise Policy Case.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has withdrawn his plea from the Supreme Court, which challenged the interim stay on his regular bail granted by the Delhi High Court in the excise policy case. The case is being investigated by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

Kejriwal's senior advocate, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, informed the court that they plan to file a fresh petition challenging the final order of the Delhi High Court dated June 25. This order had continued the stay on Kejriwal's regular bail. A vacation bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti granted Kejriwal the liberty to withdraw his plea and file a new one.

On June 21, the Delhi High Court had issued an interim stay on Kejriwal's bail, which was initially granted by a trial court. This decision followed a plea from the ED seeking a stay on Kejriwal's release. Subsequently, Kejriwal filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court's interim order.

On June 24, the Supreme Court adjourned the matter for hearing on June 26, noting that the High Court's decision to stay the bail without a final order was "unusual." The following day, the Delhi High Court issued its final order, which upheld the stay on Kejriwal's release.

The High Court criticised the trial court vacation judge's bail order, stating that it showed "perversity" as it was made without considering the ED's entire material.

The High Court's final order also described the vacation judge's observations while granting bail to Kejriwal as "uncalled for, unwarranted, and out of context." Singhvi further informed the Supreme Court that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also arrested Kejriwal in connection with the case.

Kejriwal's legal team is preparing to file a new petition, aiming to challenge the High Court's final order and seek relief for the Chief Minister. The case has garnered significant attention due to its implications for Kejriwal's political career and the ongoing investigations into the Delhi excise policy.

The legal proceedings are set to continue as Kejriwal's team navigates the complexities of the judicial system to address the charges and secure bail.
