Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi on death anniversary

On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Modi, President Murmu, and several other leaders gathered at Raj Ghat to pay floral tributes. PM Modi also shared a message, recalling Gandhi’s ideals and the sacrifices of martyrs for the nation’s freedom. A special exhibition was also inaugurated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary at Rajghat, in New Delhi on Thursday.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on the occasion of his death anniversary, marking the observance of Martyrs' Day.

 

PM Modi, in a post on X, said: "Tributes to Pujya Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals motivate us to build a developed India. I also pay tributes to all those martyred for our nation and recall their service as well as sacrifices."

 

 

President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to the 'Father of the Nation', placing floral tributes at the memorial. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were also present at the solemn occasion to offer their respects.

 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also visited Raj Ghat to pay floral tributes to Gandhi.

 

India observes Martyrs' Day every year on January 30 to commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to honour the sacrifices of all those who contributed to the country’s freedom struggle.

 

On this solemn day, the National Archives of India (NAI) and the National Gandhi Museum (NGM), in collaboration with the National Film Archives of India and Prasar Bharati Archives, have launched a special exhibition titled "Journey of the Mahatma: Through His Own Documents".

 

The exhibition, which will be inaugurated by Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, Mahatma Gandhi's granddaughter and Chairman of the National Gandhi Museum, offers an insightful look into Gandhi's life and legacy.

 

The exhibition will be open to the public at the National Gandhi Museum at 3 pm on the same day.

 

Featuring rare photographs, official documents, audio recordings, video clippings, and personal correspondences, the exhibition presents a detailed account of Gandhi’s transformative journey from his early life in Porbandar to his central role in India's independence movement.
