Manish Sisodia calls BJP defenders of 'Ravana'

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sisodia claims BJP stands with 'Ravana' in Delhi politics.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sisodia claimed that BJP leaders rushed to defend Ravana as if they were his descendants, following remarks made by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during a public address.

Sisodia’s comments, shared on social media, came after the BJP criticised Kejriwal for his reference to a Ramayana episode.

During his address in Vishwas Nagar, Kejriwal had drawn a comparison between the BJP and the golden deer from the Ramayana, warning slum dwellers not to fall for their "traps".

Kejriwal cited the story where Ravana used the golden deer as a ploy to abduct Sita. He cautioned voters in the area, saying that BJP leaders, much like the deceptive golden deer, are only interested in votes, not the welfare of slum dwellers. He alleged that the BJP plans to sell off land and demolish slums after the elections.

Sisodia’s post on X further intensified the debate. He accused the BJP of using symbolic references like Ravana to justify what he termed as false narratives.

He warned that if BJP came to power in Delhi, it would pose a greater threat to the poor, labourers, and slum residents. Sisodia alleged that the BJP's primary agenda is power and that they are conspiring to displace slum dwellers by occupying their land.

In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of disrespecting Sanatan Dharma and misinterpreting the Ramcharitmanas. He questioned Kejriwal’s newfound interest in temples, alleging it was driven by electoral motives.

Sachdeva claimed this was not the first time Kejriwal had shown disrespect towards Hindu traditions and beliefs.

Pradeep Bhandari, a BJP leader, also targeted Kejriwal, labelling him a “Chunavi Hindu” – a Hindu only during election time.

Bhandari accused Kejriwal of having limited knowledge of the Ramayana and criticised his earlier stance on the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He alleged that Kejriwal’s sudden interest in religious issues was politically motivated and aimed at appeasing voters.

The verbal exchanges between the two parties reflect the intensifying political rivalry as Delhi gears up for its Assembly elections. Voting is scheduled to take place on February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8.
