Shatavari identified as vital for women’s health and immunity.

The Ministry of Ayush has launched a nationwide campaign titled "Shatavari – For Better Health," aimed at raising awareness about the health benefits of this medicinal plant.

The campaign was inaugurated by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, and witnessed the presence of senior officials, including Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB).

The event highlighted the plant’s importance, particularly in enhancing women’s health, and aligns with the broader goal of improving overall well-being in India.

Shatavari, a well-known herb in traditional medicine, has long been celebrated for its medicinal properties. It is primarily known for its benefits to women’s health, including its use to balance hormones and improve fertility.

Furthermore, it is believed to have a role in boosting immunity, making it a valuable addition to the health regimen of individuals.

The campaign aims to bring this knowledge to the forefront, ensuring that Shatavari receives the recognition it deserves for its potential to transform the health landscape of the nation.

In his address, Shri Prataprao Jadhav reflected on the significant strides made by the Ministry of Ayush over the past decade, especially in the promotion of medicinal plants.

He commended the efforts of NMPB in spearheading various awareness initiatives related to other plants such as Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha, which have successfully educated the public about the importance of these plants in daily health and well-being.

The minister emphasised the necessity of broadening these efforts to include Shatavari, highlighting its particular relevance to women’s health.

The "Shatavari – For Better Health" campaign comes at a critical juncture in the nation’s journey towards holistic health and well-being. Shri Prataprao Jadhav linked the campaign to the vision of the Panch Pran Goal articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech in 2022.

The Prime Minister set forth a goal to make India a developed nation by its 100th Independence Day in 2047. As part of this mission, the inclusion of Shatavari as a key resource for improving women's health plays a vital role in the broader pursuit of a healthier, more prosperous India.

By promoting such medicinal plants, the Ministry of Ayush aims to contribute significantly to the nation’s holistic health goals, particularly for women.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, provided further insights into the success of the NMPB’s initiatives, which have been instrumental in the conservation and development of medicinal plants.

He spoke about the Central Sector Scheme for the Conservation, Development, and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants, a project designed to ensure the continued availability and sustainable cultivation of vital plants like Shatavari.

The scheme will help preserve these plants while also supporting the livelihoods of farmers and other stakeholders in the supply chain.

Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of NMPB, elaborated on the therapeutic properties of Shatavari, noting its medicinal importance in the context of women's health.

He emphasised how this plant has the potential to improve the overall health of women, particularly by addressing common concerns such as hormonal imbalances and reproductive health issues.

Furthermore, Dr. Dadhich highlighted the agro-economic potential of Shatavari, pointing out that its cultivation could provide a significant boost to local economies, particularly in rural areas.

To support the campaign, the Ministry of Ayush has allocated ₹18.9 Lakhs in financial assistance to eligible organisations. This funding aims to encourage greater adoption of Shatavari and to spread awareness about its benefits through community outreach and educational programmes.

The financial support will help boost the campaign’s reach and ensure that more people benefit from the plant’s medicinal properties. By providing resources to foster a greater understanding of Shatavari, the Ministry of Ayush hopes to establish a more widespread adoption of this medicinal plant in the public health system.

Shatavari’s role in traditional medicine has been well established over the years, but this campaign seeks to give it the modern recognition it deserves.

By focusing on this plant’s health benefits, particularly in supporting women’s health, the Ministry of Ayush is helping to elevate traditional medicine to new heights.

This initiative is another step in India’s ongoing efforts to promote medicinal plants and integrate them into the country’s broader health strategies.

Through awareness campaigns like this, the Ministry hopes to create a healthier, more informed society that understands the value of traditional herbs like Shatavari for better health and well-being.
