Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari announced on Thursday that Wakeel Hassan, a key figure in the Silkyara tunnel rescue mission, whose house was demolished in a recent demolition drive by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), will soon receive a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Tiwari clarified that Hassan's former residence had faced "legal issues," prompting the demolition, but assured him of imminent accommodation through PMAY.
Hassan, along with his family, spent a harrowing night on the footpath following the demolition, supported by the generosity of neighbors who provided essential supplies.
Tiwari, responding to inquiries about the incident, expressed commitment to resolving Hassan's housing situation swiftly. He assured that Hassan's name would be added to the list of PMAY beneficiaries, facilitating the provision of a new home in accordance with legal procedures.
According to Tiwari, the decision to demolish Hassan's house was not arbitrary but based on identified legal complications. However, efforts are underway to rectify the situation and ensure Hassan's family receives a new home through legitimate channels.
Tiwari emphasized that Hassan's case would be handled with urgency and sensitivity, reflecting the government's commitment to supporting individuals facing housing challenges.
Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, also the chairman of DDA, affirmed the commitment to compensating Hassan and providing alternative housing. He acknowledged the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the demolition and pledged to expedite the process of securing a new residence for Hassan's family.
Despite verbal assurances from DDA officials regarding a potential house in the Govindpuri area, Hassan insisted on receiving written confirmation, highlighting the need for clarity and official documentation in such matters.
Hassan's insistence on formal assurances underscores the significance of transparent and accountable governance in addressing citizens' concerns and ensuring equitable access to essential services and amenities.
