Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived at BJP National President JP Nadda’s residence on Sunday evening to discuss important matters, including the upcoming by-elections in the state. The meeting also included Uttar Pradesh BJP Chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.
Key figures in the state BJP were part of the gathering, with Bhupendra Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak, along with state general secretary (Organization) Dharampal Singh, expected to contribute to the discussions. Sources indicated that the primary focus of the meeting would be the forthcoming by-elections.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP faced a setback, winning only 33 seats compared to 62 in the previous elections in 2019. This disappointing performance in Uttar Pradesh is likely to be a significant topic of discussion among party leaders.
The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, outperformed the BJP by winning 37 seats during the same elections. The Congress party, which allied with the Samajwadi Party as part of the INDIA bloc, managed to secure six seats in the state.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the dates for by-elections soon, affecting ten assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. These vacant seats are Phulpur, Khair, Ghaziabad, Majhwan, Mirapur, Milkypur, Karhal, Katehari, Kundarki, and Sisamau. The outcome of these by-elections is crucial for both the BJP and opposition parties. The BJP is eager to regain its winning momentum in the state.
The Samajwadi Party has already declared candidates for six of the ten seats and has announced its intention to contest the by-elections in collaboration with the Congress party. The discussions at Nadda’s residence reflect the party’s strategic planning ahead of these important elections.
As the BJP prepares for these crucial contests, party leaders aim to reassess their strategies to ensure better performance in the upcoming polls. The meeting signifies the party's recognition of the need for a united front and effective strategies to address the challenges posed by the opposition in the state.
