Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal to expand the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by creating an additional three lakh cadet vacancies. This move is aimed at meeting the rising demand for NCC enrolment from educational institutions across the nation.
Starting with only 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC will now boast a sanctioned capacity of 20 lakh cadets, establishing itself as the world's largest uniformed youth organisation.
With the NCC now available as an elective course in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP), this expansion aligns with the aspirations of young people to contribute significantly as future leaders of the nation.
The far reaching impact of this expansion will lead to proportionate distribution of vacancies across all States & Union Territories and would reduce the waiting list of institutions aspiring for the NCC.
The expansion plan encompasses the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.
An important facet of the expansion plan involves the proposal for employment of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors thus leveraging their skills and vast experience.
This initiative will ensure quality training to the NCC cadets and would generate employment opportunities for the veterans.
The expansion symbolises a commitment to moulding future leaders who epitomise discipline, leadership, and service. The NCC strives to make a significant impact by nurturing an atmosphere where young people actively contribute to nation-building efforts.
This initiative will broaden the pool of motivated, disciplined, and patriotic youth, known as the 'Amrit Peedhi', who will play a role in achieving the vision of a developed India.
