Om Birla Commends Legislative Successes in New Parliament Building.

As the new Parliament building marks its first anniversary, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasised its historical and symbolic significance. On Tuesday, Birla highlighted the rapid construction and visionary leadership that made this milestone possible.

On May 28, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building, a momentous occasion that followed the laying of the foundation stone by Modi himself.

The building, completed in just 2 years and 7 months, stands as a testament to India's self-reliance and the aspirations of its 1.4 billion citizens. Birla praised the structure as a reflection of India's capability and vision, achieved under Modi's leadership.

Birla noted that the need for a new Parliament building had been long recognized. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had advocated for a modern facility to support the nation's legislative needs.

The new building not only meets these needs but also incorporates advanced technologies and eco-friendly features. It is designed to enhance legislative efficiency while promoting sustainability.

One of the legislative milestones achieved in the new building was the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill. This significant legislation aims to ensure greater representation of women in the legislative process, a step forward in India's democratic evolution. Birla acknowledged the contributions of many former Speakers who had called for a new Parliament House over the years.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, Birla described the enactment and implementation of the law for constructing the new Parliament as a "justice code" rather than a penal code. This new legislative framework, he said, ensures justice for the people, reflecting the nation's commitment to democratic principles.

Birla also highlighted the extensive discussions that have taken place in the new Parliament. Topics of national importance, such as the construction of the Ram Temple and visions for India's future in 2047, have been debated within its walls. These discussions underline the Parliament's role as a forum for addressing critical issues and shaping the country's trajectory.

The new Parliament building has also become a site of public interest, attracting thousands of visitors. Its construction in such a short period is a historic achievement, showcasing India's capability to undertake and complete large-scale projects efficiently.

The new Parliament building stands as a symbol of India's self-reliance, aspirations, and democratic spirit. As it celebrates its first anniversary, it not only marks a year of legislative achievements but also sets a precedent for future endeavours.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and with the support of visionary leaders like Om Birla, the new Parliament continues to inspire and facilitate the nation's progress.
