The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a remarkable 95.23% conviction rate in cases decided by courts, as per the government’s update in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The anti-terror agency, which has handled 640 cases since its establishment, has secured convictions in 140 out of 147 cases adjudicated by courts.
In response to a question in Parliament, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed that the NIA has charged 505 cases, arrested 4,174 individuals, and achieved 595 convictions.
The agency continues to make significant progress, with 109 cases under active investigation and 395 pending further investigation.
Rai also highlighted that the NIA has attached or seized 543 properties worth Rs 109.6 crore under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), further bolstering its track record in curbing illegal activities.
The NIA has seen an expansion in its operational capacity since 2019, with the creation of 13 new branch offices and two zonal offices, as well as the addition of 810 new posts, including higher-ranking officers and technical experts for cyber and technical support.
