The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant action against the terror ecosystem in Kashmir by attaching the property of Nasir Rashid Bhat, an overground worker for the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist group. This action is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle terror networks and bring accountability for violence in the region.
The property attached is a residential house located in Tengpora village, Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir. This move follows an order from the NIA Special Judge in Jammu under section 33 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1947.
Bhat, along with other members of Hizbul Mujahideen, was involved in the targeted killing of a local Sarpanch, an incident that occurred on March 11, 2022.
The NIA’s investigation, which took over from the Kulgam police, uncovered that the killing was part of a broader conspiracy by Hizbul Mujahideen aimed at disrupting India’s integrity and sovereignty.
The agency’s findings revealed that Bhat had played a critical role by providing logistical support to the terrorists. Specifically, he had given them his Alto car, conducted reconnaissance of the Sarpanch’s residence, and informed the terrorists of the target's whereabouts.
Bhat’s involvement was significant as he facilitated the attack by transporting the assailants to the vicinity of the Sarpanch’s house, directly contributing to the execution of the crime. As of now, the NIA has filed charges against six individuals in connection with this case, and the trial is ongoing.
This action by the NIA underscores its commitment to tackling terrorism and dismantling the infrastructure that supports it. By targeting the assets of those involved in terrorism, the agency aims to disrupt the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and deter others from engaging in similar activities.
