Ahead of the Maghi Purnima Snan scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, authorities have put in place comprehensive plans to manage the large influx of devotees expected at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
The entire Maha Kumbh area will be declared a 'no vehicle zone' starting February 11 at 4 am, following major traffic disruptions that occurred on Monday, when thousands of devotees were stuck in traffic jams for over 30 hours.
The traffic jams reportedly stretched up to 300 kilometers, with the police advising many travelers to turn back due to the overwhelming congestion. Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, explained to PTI that the traffic delays were not caused by poor management but were a result of the sheer number of people participating in the Maha Kumbh, which is hosting the largest human gathering in history.

As of now, more than 40 crore devotees have already visited the Sangam since the Maha Kumbh began on January 13, with millions more arriving daily.
In preparation for Maghi Purnima, the district administration in Prayagraj has laid out a traffic plan to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of devotees for the bathing ritual.

The entire Mela area will become a no-vehicle zone from 4 am on February 11, lasting until the evacuation of devotees on February 12. Essential and emergency services will be allowed to operate within the restricted zones.
Additionally, from 5 pm on February 11, the no-vehicle zone will also apply within Prayagraj city. Devotees coming from outside the city will have to park their vehicles at designated parking lots along their respective routes starting from 4 am on February 11. Vehicles for emergency and essential services will be exempt from these restrictions.
The advisory notes that the same restrictions will also apply to the vehicles of Kalpvasi, a group of devotees who observe a special ritual during the Kumbh Mela. The authorities have urged everyone to follow the traffic guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the millions of devotees expected to attend the event.
