Infamous gangster Aman Sahu, whose criminal activities had posed a significant challenge for Jharkhand Police, was killed in an encounter with the police on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Andhari Dhoda area of Chainpur block in Palamu district.
Following the recent killing of an NTPC Deputy General Manager in Hazaribagh district, Sahu was being transported from Raipur jail to Ranchi by a Ranchi Police team for interrogation.
According to sources, the police vehicle met with an accident in the Chainpur area of Palamu. Seizing the opportunity, Aman Sahu snatched a weapon from a policeman and attempted to escape. When the police tried to stop him, he opened fire on them.
In retaliation, the police returned fire, resulting in Aman Sahu being shot dead on the spot. However, there has been no official confirmation of the incident at the time of this report.
The influence and menace of the Aman Sahu gang had been growing in Jharkhand in recent times. Just three days ago, members of this gang fired at coal transporter Bipin Mishra in Ranchi.
Jharkhand Police had been intensifying their crackdown on the Aman Sahu gang, yet the gang’s criminal activities showed no signs of abating. Over the past year, more than 30 criminals associated with this gang had been arrested and imprisoned across various districts of the state.
Despite police efforts, Aman Sahu’s gang continued to challenge law enforcement through acts of arson, murder, and firing at vehicles involved in coal projects, along with extortion demands from businessmen.
The gang was also suspected to be involved in the murder of NTPC Deputy General Manager Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad of Jharkhand Police has registered a case against 22 criminals linked to the gang, including Aman Sahu’s brother. Among those named in the case are Akash Sahu, Akash Roy Monu, Hari Tiwari, Ashish Sahu, Rahul Singh, Raja Ansari, Rahul Dubey, and Yogeshwar Mahato.
Mayank Singh, a key member of the Aman Sahu gang, had been issuing extortion threats to coal traders in Jharkhand and taking responsibility for criminal incidents on social media. The gang extorted money from coal and transport companies operating in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh.
