Security agencies have released photographs and sketches of the terrorists responsible for the gruesome attack at Baisaran meadow in Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 28 tourists and left several others grievously injured.

The assault, which took place on Tuesday, has been attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The three key assailants have been identified as Asif Fuji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha. According to intelligence sources, the operation was masterminded by Saifullah Kasuri alias Khalid, a senior LeT commander.

At least five to six terrorists, reportedly attired in camouflage gear and traditional kurta-pyjamas, emerged from the thick pine forests flanking the valley. They unleashed indiscriminate gunfire with AK-47 rifles at unsuspecting tourists in the idyllic Baisaran meadow, a popular destination known for its scenic beauty.

Preliminary forensic findings and survivor testimonies indicate the use of military-grade weaponry and advanced communication equipment by the attackers. Intelligence reports suggest that the perpetrators were aided by external logistical support.

Further investigation has revealed that the terrorists were equipped with body-worn and helmet-mounted cameras, suggesting their intention to document the carnage. Stockpiles of dry fruits and essential medicines were found at the site, indicating thorough premeditation.

According to eyewitnesses, two of the terrorists spoke in Pashto, pointing to their Pakistani origins, while two others — Adil and Asif — have been identified as local operatives hailing from Bijbhera and Tral, respectively.

Digital evidence has traced the attackers' communication to safe houses located in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, further corroborating the cross-border links to the atrocity. Sources also confirmed that a detailed reconnaissance of the area had been conducted in advance, allegedly with local assistance.

Security forces, comprising the Army, CRPF, and Jammu & Kashmir Police, have launched an extensive manhunt. The cordon and search operations are being supported by aerial surveillance and thermal imaging to locate the absconding terrorists who escaped using the forest cover.

The attack marks the deadliest assault in the Kashmir Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. Officials have confirmed that anti-terror operations will continue until all perpetrators are neutralised.
