Pahalgam probe reveals terror links to Pak masterminds

The ministry reiterated that Pakistan's history as a haven for terrorism is widely documented and substantiated by credible evidence.

Pahalgam probe revealed 'communication nodes' of terrorists with Pak masterminds.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed a parliamentary committee that preliminary investigations into the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, have uncovered “communication nodes” between the terrorists involved and their masterminds based in Pakistan.

In a presentation to the Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, the MEA stated that the Pahalgam attack bore clear "footprints and tracks" similar to previous strikes claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF). The ministry emphasised that TRF is essentially a proxy name for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a United Nations-designated terrorist organisation.

The ministry reiterated that Pakistan's history as a haven for terrorism is widely documented and substantiated by credible evidence. It also pointed out that despite consistent international condemnation, Pakistan continues to provide sanctuary to proscribed terrorist entities.

Addressing recent claims made by Pakistan, the MEA noted that Islamabad has accused India of carrying out extra-judicial and extra-territorial killings on Pakistani soil. These allegations, the ministry said, are completely unfounded and lack any supporting evidence. It asserted that such claims are aimed at creating a false narrative of equivalence, portraying both countries as victims of cross-border terrorism — a portrayal India firmly rejects.

The MEA further highlighted that several UN-designated terrorists continue to operate freely in Pakistan, openly inciting violence against India with impunity.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Response to Pahalgam Massacre

In response to the execution-style killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation involved precision missile strikes targeting nine terror facilities located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), including key bases of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.

According to military sources, over 100 terrorists were neutralized during the strikes. High-value targets eliminated include Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed — all senior operatives linked to various terror outfits.

Diplomatic Engagement Post-Strikes

Following four days of intense cross-border military action, India and Pakistan agreed on May 10 to halt further strikes and de-escalate tensions. In the wake of the temporary ceasefire, the Indian government constituted seven diplomatic delegations comprising 51 leaders — including parliamentarians and former ministers across political lines — to travel to major world capitals. The goal is to present India’s stance on counter-terrorism and expose Pakistan’s continued complicity in cross-border militancy.

The MEA’s comprehensive briefing to the parliamentary committee serves as both an update on internal investigations and a strategic outline of India’s diplomatic and military response to the Pahalgam massacre.
