Pakistan continues LoC firing on day 6; India retaliates

The Indian Army retaliated effectively to unprovoked small-arms firing by Pakistani forces across several sectors along the LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir, even as Pakistan-based cyber actors attempted to target Indian defence-linked websites. No operational or classified systems were compromised, authorities confirmed.

The Indian Army issued a sharp and proportionate response to unprovoked small-arms firing initiated by Pakistani forces across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir during the intervening night of 29 and 30 April.

Indian Army officials said that Pakistani troops had targeted Indian positions in the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu. The firing later extended to Baramulla and Kupwara districts in north Kashmir, as well as the Pargwal sector along the International Border (IB).

"During the night of 29-30 April, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors. Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately," the Army stated.

This marks the sixth consecutive day of Indian retaliation in response to Pakistani provocation since the initial breach on the night of 25–26 April.

Amid these escalations on the ground, Pakistani cyber actors have intensified efforts to penetrate Indian digital infrastructure. According to security sources, attempts to breach Indian cyberspace were thwarted by a robust cyber defence network.

The group calling itself "IOK Hacker" (Internet of Khilafah) attempted to deface publicly accessible websites linked to Indian military welfare and education, after failing to infiltrate mission-critical national networks. The offensive aimed to disrupt online services and extract sensitive data.

Intelligence assessments confirmed four cyber incidents traced to Pakistani origins. The websites of Army Public School (APS) Srinagar and APS Ranikhet were targeted with inflammatory propaganda. APS Srinagar was also subjected to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

Further attempts were made to breach the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) database and the Indian Air Force Placement Organisation portal. However, all sites were swiftly isolated, and restorative measures were initiated. No sensitive or classified information was compromised.

“These frustrated attempts highlight both the adversary’s intent and its limitations,” an official source said.

Authorities stated that Pakistan's repeated ceasefire violations and cyber provocations point to a coordinated effort to undermine India's internal security and morale, particularly in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
