Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticised opposition parties for resorting to "propaganda" and "misleading" the public, asserting that their prolonged denial of power had pushed them into actions against democratic norms.
Addressing BJP workers in Odisha’s capital, Modi stated, “Those who consider power as their birthright have not been in power at the Centre for the last decade.”
He claimed their frustration had led them to spread falsehoods, saying, “They are misleading people with ‘jhoot aur afwah ki dukan’ (lies and rumours).”
Modi acknowledged that ideological differences were natural in a democracy but said opposition protests now lacked constructiveness. “The spirit of the Constitution is crushed, and all the norms of democracy are rejected,” he remarked.
He also accused opposition parties of failing to accept BJP-led NDA’s electoral mandates, alleging conspiracies against the nation and its people.
The Prime Minister urged saffron party leaders to remain vigilant, stating, “Such false propaganda is a big challenge for people of India, and BJP workers... should be more alert and vigilant to foil such attempts and expose the lies.”
Highlighting BJP’s commitment to Odisha, Modi said, “The BJP dedicatedly worked for the development of Odisha even when the party was not in power in the eastern state.”
He noted that BJP’s success in Odisha, Haryana, and Maharashtra elections had boosted the party’s confidence across the nation.
Modi praised Odisha’s cultural richness, adding, “I am happy that due to the efforts of the BJP, Odisha’s tribal daughter Droupadi Murmu ji is the President of the country today. Her journey will inspire many generations to come.”
The Prime Minister outlined recent initiatives implemented in Odisha, including the Subhadra Yojana, which promises ₹50,000 to one crore women over five years as a symbol of women’s empowerment.
The government has also started procuring paddy at ₹3,100 per quintal, fulfilling election promises.
On the upcoming events in Odisha, Modi mentioned the All India DGP/IGP Conference being held in Bhubaneswar, Operation Demonstration in Puri on Navy Day, and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in January, marking the state’s growing prominence.
“We want to give priority to Odisha not only in the country but also on the world map,” Modi said, reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to the state’s development.
It is to be noted here that this is the same conference for which a threat was issued by US-based pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun earlier this week.
The post had garnered significant attention, targeting the upcoming Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police Conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Pannun, the leader of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), had released a video urging disruption of the high-profile three-day event.
In the video, Pannun labelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval as an "axis of evil," accusing them of creating security threats in Bhubaneswar.
He also described the city as a "city of terror" instead of a "city of temples," claiming that the gathering would include officials from various central forces such as the CRPF, NSG, NIA, and IB.
