PM Modi gifts projects worth ₹36,000 crore to Jharkhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at the ceremony for foundation stone laying and inauguration of multiple developmental projects, in Sindri, Dhanbad district, Friday,

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gifted development projects over ₹35,000 crore to Jharkhand. In the inaugural ceremony at Sindri in the Dhanbad district of the State, the PM dedicated to the nation - the Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd (HURL) Sindri Fertiliser Plant inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation of rail projects worth more than ₹ 17,600 crores and dedicated to the nation the Unit 1 (660 MW) of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), Chatra in the presence of Union Minister Arjun Munda, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan, and Chief Minister Champai Soren.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister congratulated farmers, people of tribal community, and the people of Jharkhand for the schemes.

It was Modi's guarantee that I would definitely get this special factory in Sindri started and today this guarantee has been fulfilled,” he said.

“I had come to lay the foundation stone of this fertilizer plant in 2018. Today, not only the Sindri factory has been inaugurated but thousands of new employment opportunities have started for the youth of my country and Jharkhand. With the inauguration of this fertilizer factory, today India has taken another step towards self-reliance,” said the PM, adding, "Every year about 360 lakh metric tonnes of urea is required in India".

"When our government was formed in 2014, 225 lakh metric tonnes of urea was produced in the country. To fill this big gap, urea was imported in large quantities in India; hence we resolved to make the country self-dependent in the field of urea. Due to the efforts of the government, the production of urea has increased to 310 lakh metric tonnes in the last 10 years. During this period we have started fertilizer plants in Ramagundam, Barauni, Gorakhpur, and Rohini. Sindri has also been added to it. Talcher fertilizer plant will also be added to the list, which will start production in a year and a half,” he added.

The PM said that India will be able to produce more than 60 lakh metric tonnes of urea from these five plants.

“India is rapidly moving towards becoming self-reliant. This will not only save foreign exchange but that money will be spent in the interest of farmers,” he added.

The PM said that a new chapter of the rail revolution is being written in Jharkhand.

“From the beginning of the new railway lines to the doubling of the existing railway line, many other projects have started today. With the beginning of the Deoghar Dibrugarh train, the temple of Baidyanath and the temple of Mata Kamakhya Shaktipeeth will be connected. A few days ago, I laid the foundation of the Varanasi-Kolkata-Ranchi Expressway in Varanasi. This will increase the speed of commuting in the entire Jharkhand including Ramgarh, Hazaribag, and Bokaro manifold,” he said.

The PM said it is now going to be very convenient for farmers whether it is about crops, coal in our mines, products like cement in our factories, or sending them from Eastern India to every corner of the country.

"These projects will enhance the regional connectivity of Jharkhand. It will get better and the economic development here will gain momentum. In the last 10 years, we have worked for Jharkhand by making the tribal community, poor youth, and women our top priority," he said.

Lauding India’s achievements on the economic front the PM said, “Today India is among the countries with the fastest growing economy in the world. Bharat has shown better performance by achieving a growth rate of 8.4% in the last quarter. India is growing so fast and will become developed by moving ahead at this pace and for developed India, it is necessary to develop Jharkhand also. The central government is working in this direction in every possible way".
