PM Hails Infantry for Dedication To National Security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured the courage and spirit of India’s infantry on Sunday, marking Infantry Day with a message of gratitude to all ranks and veterans. In a message posted on X, PM Modi commended the infantry’s resilience, commitment to duty, and role in protecting the nation, describing them as “indomitable” in the face of adversity. The prime minister’s tribute highlighted the unwavering service of the infantry and their contribution to India’s security.

“On Infantry Day, we all salute the indomitable spirit and courage of all Ranks and Veterans of the Infantry, who tirelessly protect us,” PM Modi shared. “They always stand resolute in the face of any adversity, ensuring the safety and security of our nation. The infantry embodies the essence of strength, valour, and duty, inspiring every Indian.”

In observance of the day, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and other senior military officers laid wreaths at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

Infantry Day is held every year on October 27, honouring the landing of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment in Srinagar in 1947, which was crucial in defending the Kashmir Valley from the advancing Pakistani-backed tribal forces.

The successful defence of Srinagar marked a pivotal moment in protecting Jammu and Kashmir. Known as the “Queen of the Battle,” the infantry is recognized for its key role throughout history in ensuring India’s sovereignty.

Since independence, the infantry has been instrumental in major conflicts, including the wars with Pakistan in 1947-48, 1965, and 1971, the 1962 war with China, and the 1999 Kargil conflict. Their actions in these wars reflect a legacy of bravery and resolve that has defined the Indian infantry.

According to a government release, the infantry’s role extends beyond wartime, having been critical in various counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across the country.

Their involvement in operations such as Op BLUE STAR and Op RAKSHAK in Punjab, Op PAWAN in Sri Lanka, and most recently, Op SNOW LEOPARD in Eastern Ladakh, has showcased their commitment to professionalism and dedication.

On Infantry Day, India not only remembers the historic defence of Srinagar but also salutes the spirit and courage that the infantry embodies. This occasion is a tribute to their sacrifice, valour, and the essential role they play in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
