Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the United Nations General Assembly's high-level meeting in New York this September. According to the preliminary program released by the Assembly President Dennis Francis' office, Modi's speech is scheduled for the afternoon session on September 26.

This will mark Prime Minister Modi’s fifth address to the Assembly during the high-profile week when presidents, kings, prime ministers, and other senior leaders gather at the UN headquarters for their annual meeting.

Previously, he addressed the Assembly remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In addition to Modi's address, the same session will feature speeches by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Prime Minister of Nepal.

Last year, Modi visited the UN in June for the International Day of Yoga, an event he initiated in his first address in 2014. However, he did not attend the September high-level meeting.

The high-level meeting at the UNGA is a significant event where participants outline their international policies and comment on global developments. These speeches are closely monitored, but the more crucial work occurs behind the scenes. Leaders have the opportunity to conduct dozens of bilateral meetings and participate in various forums, fostering international cooperation and dialogue.

During his previous participation in the September high-level meetings, many international leaders sought to meet with Prime Minister Modi, underscoring India's growing influence on the global stage. Modi speaks in Hindi, with simultaneous translation into the six official languages of the UN, ensuring his message reaches a broad audience.

The schedule, however, is subject to change. Prime Minister Modi’s speech time, currently set between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in New York, translates to an early morning slot in India, between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on September 27. Given the timing, it is likely that there may be adjustments to accommodate a more suitable slot for the Indian audience.

Prime Minister Modi's participation in the UNGA high-level meeting is anticipated with great interest. His speeches at international forums often highlight India's stance on critical global issues and reflect the country's commitment to multilateralism and sustainable development.

India's role in the UN has been significant, with its contributions to peacekeeping, advocacy for climate change action, and support for sustainable development goals. Modi's address is expected to touch upon these themes, reinforcing India's commitment to global cooperation and peace.

Moreover, the bilateral meetings and interactions on the sidelines of the UNGA session are expected to bolster India's diplomatic relations. Modi's engagements will likely include discussions on trade, defence, technology, and climate change with other world leaders.

The UNGA session is also an opportunity for India to showcase its achievements and vision on the global stage. Prime Minister Modi’s address is expected to reflect on India's progress, its challenges, and its aspirations for the future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled attendance at the UNGA high-level meeting in September underscores India’s active participation in global affairs. His speech and interactions are expected to focus on international policies, global cooperation, and India's role in addressing global challenges. As always, Modi’s presence at the UN will be closely watched and his address eagerly anticipated.
