On 27th December 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over a historic event marking a significant milestone in India's rural empowerment journey.
Through video conferencing, he will lead the e-Distribution of 58 lakh SVAMITVA Property Cards, benefiting approximately 50,000 villages across ten states and two Union Territories.
This remarkable achievement will also see the SVAMITVA scheme surpass the 2 crore mark in terms of property cards distributed, solidifying its role in reshaping rural governance in India.
The distribution event will take place at 12:30 PM, with Prime Minister Modi interacting with selected beneficiaries. The event will be graced by Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Vivek Bharadwaj.
In addition, several Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, senior officials, and panchayat representatives will attend virtually, with around 13 Union Ministers participating in regional distribution ceremonies across the country.
The SVAMITVA Scheme, an ambitious initiative launched on 24th April 2020, aims to provide a "Record of Rights" to property owners in rural Abadi areas using cutting-edge drone and GIS technology.
The scheme has transformed the way rural property ownership is documented and has paved the way for improved governance and financial inclusion in rural India.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the government remained committed to the scheme, with the first batch of property cards distributed virtually in October 2020.
One of the key achievements of the SVAMITVA Scheme is the extensive use of drone mapping technology. Surveying over 3.17 lakh villages, the government has been able to map rural properties accurately, creating a digital record of land ownership.
This has led to the preparation and distribution of over 2.19 crore property cards across 1.49 lakh villages, further strengthening rural governance.
The distribution of these property cards has had a far-reaching impact on the lives of rural citizens. With accurate, digitally validated property records in hand, rural communities now have enhanced access to institutional credit, which has been pivotal in improving their financial stability.
The legal ownership of properties has also provided women with greater social and economic security, contributing significantly to gender equality in rural areas.
Moreover, the SVAMITVA scheme has played a crucial role in resolving property disputes. Accurate property mapping has significantly reduced conflicts over land ownership, leading to improved peace and stability in rural areas.
In addition, the availability of property records has facilitated better planning of infrastructure and Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs), ensuring that rural development is based on solid data.
As part of its nationwide impact, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with states and Union Territories, is organising orientation programmes at around 20,000 locations across the country on 27th December 2024.
These initiatives are aimed at spreading awareness about the SVAMITVA Scheme and other flagship programmes of the Ministry, ensuring maximum outreach to rural communities.
