Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday to launch a series of infrastructure and development initiatives, including two major hydropower ventures valued at more than Rs 5,100 crore.
In Itanagar, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones of multiple projects, among them the Heo Hydro Electric Project and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project, together expected to generate 426 MW of power. Both projects are being developed by the state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, in a joint venture with the government of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to officials, the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW), located in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district, is projected to generate about 1,000 million units annually.
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW) is expected to produce nearly 803 million units annually. With a combined estimated cost of over Rs 3,700 crore, the ventures aim to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydroelectric potential and boost sustainable energy generation.
Officials said the projects will not only contribute to India’s clean energy targets but also provide substantial socio-economic benefits to the region by creating new employment opportunities and accelerating growth. The initiatives are aligned with the vision of building a ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’.

The Prime Minister is expected to land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala before flying by helicopter to Palatana, from where he will proceed by road to the temple site.
NEEPCO, which has been a cornerstone of power generation in the Northeast since its establishment in 1976, is leading the projects.
Classified as a Mini Ratna Category-I Public Sector Enterprise, the corporation has played a vital role in tapping the region’s immense hydroelectric potential and driving energy security.
