President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate a transformative phase for Odisha and Jharkhand's transportation network by laying the foundation stones for three new rail lines under the South Eastern Railway on 7 December.
These projects aim to significantly improve connectivity, drive economic development, and uplift the quality of life for people in the region.
The three new projects are the Badampahar-Kendujhargarh Rail Line, the Bangriposi-Gorumahisani Rail Line, and the Buramara-Chakulia Rail Line.
The 82-km Badampahar-Kendujhargarh Rail Line, passing through Odisha's Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, will cost Rs 2,106 crore. It promises to enhance rail accessibility for residents, making transportation more convenient and reliable.
The Bangriposi-Gorumahisani Rail Line, 86 km in length and costing Rs 2,549 crore, will connect key areas within Mayurbhanj district, bolstering passenger and freight movement and spurring economic progress.
Spanning 60 km, the Buramara-Chakulia Rail Line links Mayurbhanj district in Odisha with East Singhbhum in Jharkhand. The Rs 1,639-crore project will improve goods transport, particularly in mineral-rich areas, fuelling industrial growth and economic activity.
The introduction of these rail lines addresses long-standing transportation challenges faced by local residents. Improved connectivity will stimulate business opportunities, foster regional development, and create job prospects, especially in the industrial and logistics sectors.
Better rail infrastructure will also enable easier access to healthcare and educational facilities, contributing to an overall improvement in living standards. The projects are anticipated to drive development in less-developed regions of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and East Singhbhum districts.
“This event marks a pivotal step in the region’s progress, with far-reaching implications for its social and economic landscape. The President’s involvement underscores the government’s dedication to upgrading infrastructure and fostering sustainable growth,” stated a South Eastern Railway official.
