Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Bhutan for extending a warm welcome during his visit to their picturesque nation.

In a message shared on social media platform 'X', PM Modi expressed his gratitude to Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, acknowledging the hospitality bestowed upon him.

"Thank you for the warm welcome to Bhutan, PM @tsheringtobgay. May India-Bhutan friendship keep scaling new heights," the Prime Minister said on 'X'.

India's unwavering commitment to bolstering its unique and enduring ties with Bhutan, in line with its 'Neighbourhood First' Policy is being considered as the focus of the Prime Minister's visit.

His arrival at the Paro International Airport was greeted with a ceremonial reception, where he was warmly received by Prime Minister Tobgay.

Throughout his journey from Paro to Thimphu, PM Modi was greeted by enthusiastic crowds lining the route, with both Indian and Bhutanese flags adorning the landscape,  epitomising  the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

In a cultural display of warmth and camaraderie, Bhutanese youths dressed in traditional Indian attire performed a 'Garba' song composed by Prime Minister Modi himself, showcasing the strong cultural bonds shared between India and Bhutan.

"I am grateful to the people of Bhutan, especially the young children, for the memorable welcome to their beautiful country," Modi wrote in another post on 'X' and also shared pictures of him interacting with a cross-section of people of Bhutan.

Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception, PM Modi shared glimpses of his interactions with the people of Bhutan, particularly with the younger generation, showcasing the memorable experience of his visit.

The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and the Government’s emphasis on its Neighbourhood First Policy, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

The Bhutanese prime minister wrote on 'X' in Hindi: "Bhutan mein aapka swagat hai mere bade bhai @narendramodi Ji (Welcome to Bhutan my big brother)" Earlier, Modi posted on X about his visit to Bhutan.

The visit, originally scheduled for March 21-22, had been postponed due to inclement weather conditions. However, PM Modi's arrival was eagerly awaited, culminating in fruitful discussions with Bhutanese leadership, including the reigning and Fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tobgay.

Additionally, discussions were held with the Prime Minister of Bhutan, aiming to foster dialogue on bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest.

The objective was to further fortify the longstanding partnership between the two nations for the betterment of their respective peoples, as outlined by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The visit was marked by a grand reception at the Tashichho Dzong, a revered Buddhist monastery and the administrative seat of the Bhutanese government.

The itinerary includes the inauguration of the state-of-the-art Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, a collaborative effort supported by the Government of India.

Earlier, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tobgay embarked on a five-day visit to India, marking his inaugural foreign trip since assuming office in January.

During his visit, he engaged in substantive discussions with leaders across various sectors, underscoring the multifaceted nature of bilateral cooperation.

Established in 1968, diplomatic ties between India and Bhutan have been reinforced by the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 1949, further revised in February 2007, laying the foundation for a robust and enduring partnership between the two neighbouring nations.
