Harpreet Singh, the brother of Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher and Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib, has been arrested by Jalandhar police in a drug case.
Harpreet, along with another accomplice, Lovepreet Singh alias Luv, was apprehended on Thursday evening with four grams of ICE (methamphetamine) drug in their possession. The drug is used to keep one awake.
According to Jalandhar police, Harpreet Singh is a transport dispatch worker and both men hail from Amritsar.
Amritpal Singh, who is currently in prison in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA), has been a controversial figure known for his radical views and militant style. He was recently taken to Delhi to take oath as a Lok Sabha member after winning the election as an independent candidate.
The arrest of Harpreet Singh comes after a crackdown on Amritpal Singh's associates and supporters, who have been accused of various criminal activities. Amritpal Singh and his followers had clashed with police in February last year, leading to his arrest under the NSA.
Ironically, Amritpal calls himself an anti-drug crusader.
