Punjab Police Raids Target 246 Major Drug Smugglers' Hideouts.

Punjab Police launched a targeted operation on Thursday, raiding the hideouts of 246 significant drug smugglers who are currently out on bail. These individuals, known as "big fish," were caught with 2 kg or more of contraband substances. This initiative is part of the police force's ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in the state.

Under the direction of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, the operation spanned across all districts in Punjab. Special DGP Arpit Shukla revealed that there are a total of 356 "big fishes" implicated in 257 drug cases across the state. Among them, 246 are currently out on bail and have been active in the drug trade over the past five years.

The list of these 246 major drug smugglers was distributed to all district police officers, who were tasked with organising police teams to carry out the raids. The primary objective of these searches was to disrupt the drug nexus and curb illegal drug trafficking activities.

During the operation, police teams were instructed to apprehend any suspicious individuals and thoroughly search the identified hideouts for incriminating evidence.

Over 113 police teams, comprising approximately 1,200 personnel, participated in the raids. They meticulously checked 188 hideouts, seizing various items, including mobile phones, believed to be linked to drug trafficking.

The seized materials, including electronic devices, are currently undergoing detailed examination as part of the ongoing investigation. This operation underscores the Punjab Police's commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens.

By targeting major drug smugglers and disrupting their operations, law enforcement authorities aim to make significant strides in eradicating the drug menace from the state.
