Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition and Congress Member of Parliament, is on his way to Ranchi today to participate in an important event known as the Samvidhan Samman Sammelan.
This gathering aims to honour the Constitution and discuss its significance in contemporary society. Gandhi is expected to address the audience at this program, which is set to take place in Ranchi, Jharkhand, at 3 PM.
Currently, the political landscape in Jharkhand is dominated by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which is the largest party in the state assembly. The JMM holds 30 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) follows with 25 seats, and the Congress Party has 16 seats.
As the state approaches the assembly elections, scheduled for November 13 and 20, the political dynamics are becoming increasingly critical. The Election Commission of India has already announced the election timeline for Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
In Jharkhand, approximately 2.60 crore voters are eligible to participate in the upcoming elections. Among these voters, there are 1.31 crore males and 1.29 crore females.
Notably, the state is also witnessing a significant influx of young voters, with around 11.84 lakh individuals set to cast their votes for the first time. The counting of votes in both Jharkhand and Maharashtra will take place on November 23.
As the elections draw nearer, the Congress Party and the JMM have announced their alliance for the polls. They are currently in the process of finalising their seat-sharing arrangement.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the Congress state in-charge, mentioned that discussions regarding the seat-sharing agreement with the JMM are progressing. He indicated that the final decisions regarding Congress's participation in the elections would be made soon, likely by Saturday or Sunday.
Mir also addressed concerns regarding the seat-sharing talks, explaining that the Congress and JMM have engaged in three rounds of discussions. He assured that apart from the JMM, there would be meetings with other stakeholders to solidify their strategy.
According to him, the names of potential candidates have been sourced from grassroots levels, ensuring that they represent the voices and needs of the local population.
The Samvidhan Samman Sammelan holds significance in light of the upcoming elections, as it emphasises the values of democracy and constitutional rights. Rahul Gandhi’s participation in this event reflects the Congress Party’s commitment to these ideals and their intention to connect with voters in Jharkhand. His address is likely to focus on the importance of the Constitution in protecting citizens' rights and fostering a democratic society.
