Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi, is set to witness a major leap in healthcare infrastructure with the establishment of RIMS-2 (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences – Phase 2), which will become Asia’s largest integrated super-speciality hospital.
This expansive 2,600-bed facility is designed to bring together multiple advanced medical departments under one roof, significantly enhancing Jharkhand's capacity for high-end healthcare delivery and positioning it as a prominent medical hub in the region.
To ensure global standards in design and functionality, Jharkhand Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari and Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Ajay Kumar Singh, conducted an in-depth review of Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, known for its cutting-edge infrastructure and systems.
The development of RIMS-2 will draw heavily from this model, integrating modern design with scalable medical and research facilities.
The hospital campus will include dedicated wings for specialities such as cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery, and orthopaedics, all supported by advanced diagnostics and critical care units.
A comprehensive medical research centre and telemedicine facilities will also form part of the infrastructure, enabling seamless patient care and academic excellence on a single campus.
The institution will be equipped not only for treatment but also for teaching and training, thus addressing both current and future healthcare needs.
“This initiative marks a structural revolution in Jharkhand’s healthcare ecosystem,” said Health Minister Dr Ansari.
“RIMS-2 is not merely an expansion — it’s a strategic transformation that will bring international standards of hospital infrastructure to Jharkhand. We are executing this project with unprecedented speed,” he said.
Highlighting the scale of investment, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh stated that Rs 1,000 crore in financial support will come from the Asian Development Bank, with the remainder sourced from the state government’s budget plan.
The financial structure reflects the state’s commitment to building world-class healthcare infrastructure.
Once completed, RIMS-2 is expected to become a benchmark for hospital infrastructure across India, attracting patients not only from Jharkhand and eastern India but from across the nation and beyond.
“This will serve as a beacon of hope and care for millions,” Singh emphasised.
The announcement followed a high-level interdepartmental meeting chaired by Health Minister Ansari, attended by top officials, including Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Building Construction Secretary Arwa Rajkamal, and Road Construction Secretary Sunil Kumar — reflecting a coordinated push to fast-track hospital infrastructure development in the state.
