The Red Fort this year will be equipped with an AI-based security system for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The advanced system, designed to enhance surveillance and automate crowd management, marks a step forward in ensuring the safety of the high-profile event.

Key to the upgraded security is an intelligence video surveillance system featuring advanced capabilities such as vehicle number plate recognition, face detection, and people movement counting.

The system will also include tripwire, audio detection, intrusion detection, and features for identifying defocused, abandoned, or missing objects. This technology aims to provide real-time analysis and heightened situational awareness.

Security agencies will deploy AI-enabled cameras across critical locations within the Red Fort.

These cameras are equipped with video analytics that allow for accurate, real-time estimations of crowd sizes and the monitoring of entry and exit points.

A key component of the security setup is the facial recognition technology, which can match individuals against existing watchlist databases using live camera feeds and recorded footage.

In addition, the new number plate recognition system will continuously monitor and record vehicle plates, offering 24/7 coverage.

Despite the technological advancements, human oversight remains vital. Over 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, will be deployed in and around the Red Fort and other sensitive locations in central and north Delhi.

With more than 700 CCTVs and 150 cameras equipped with video analytics, the security apparatus promises to be one of the most advanced ever deployed for the event.
