An encounter broke out early Wednesday morning between security forces and terrorists in the remote Chhatru area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region. Acting on the tip-off, joint teams of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and Jammu and Kashmir Police began a search operation in the early hours.
“Alert troops of the White Knight Corps, in coordination with J&K Police, established contact with terrorists in the general area of Chhatru. Fire has been exchanged, and the operation is currently in progress,” the White Knight Corps said in a post on X.

Sources said two to three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the area. The group is suspected to have been active in the region for several months, and security forces had been tracking their movements closely.
The Chhatru area, situated in the higher reaches of Kishtwar, has witnessed sporadic militant activity over the past year. Security forces have intensified counter-terror operations in the district in recent months as part of efforts to curb militancy in the Jammu region.
Authorities said the operation, codenamed “Op Chhatru,” remains ongoing as security personnel continue to comb the area for the remaining suspects. Further details are awaited.
