Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Parliament Dimple Yadav visited Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday, expressing her support for the Tibetan people’s struggle.
Yadav, wife of SP chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, expressed admiration for the Dalai Lama. "I have come here to meet His Holiness and express my solidarity with the Tibetan cause," she said during her visit to the main Tibetan temple.
Earlier, the Dalai Lama attended a special long-life prayer ceremony organised by the Monpa community from Arunachal Pradesh. The ceremony, held at the temple, was led by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and a delegation from the Tawang region.
The delegation, which included MP Tapir Gao, Arunachal Education and Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee, and MLA Zingnu Namchoom, presented offerings to the Dalai Lama as a mark of respect and devotion, according to an official statement.
The Monpa community's prayers underscored the strong spiritual and cultural ties between Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh, where reverence for the Dalai Lama remains deep-rooted.
Khandu, who had been in Dharamshala for several days, also met with officials from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the Tibetan government-in-exile. On Friday, the CTA held a special ceremony to welcome the Arunachal delegation and express appreciation for their continued solidarity with the Tibetan cause.
Khandu praised the CTA's work to promote Tibetan interests and reaffirmed Arunachal Pradesh's commitment to supporting Tibet, emphasising the historical and cultural significance of their relationship.
